This workshop is specifically aimed at new sewers ( & those who’d like to refresh their skills!) who would like to get to know and use a sewing machine, all while making a tote bag.In this 3hr workshop, we aim to cover the items below

  • Introduction to the different parts and functions of the sewing machine
  • how to thread a machine correctly
  • how to thread and fill a bobbin correctly
  • troubleshooting.. a sewing detectives guide on what to look out for when things go wrong!
  • how to lay up your fabric ready for cutting.
  • how to measure, cut, sew and press a tote bag
  • basic sewing terminology
  • guidance on sourcing your sewing tools, fabrics & patterns.

This is a three hour workshop to be held in the very lovely creative workshop space at Amo & Pax in Killmacanogue.
All machines, tools and fabrics will be provided. If you have your own machine you are encouraged to bring it along as it’s always best to learn on your own machine. If you are unfamiliar with your machine I will teach you how to thread and use it.

This is an ideal foundation sewing workshop. Whether you want to make bits and bobs for your home, go on to do basic alterations on your own clothes, upcycle special charity & vintage finds, join one of our weekly sewing classes to learn how to follow a commercial pattern , or perhaps it’s a new direction in your career you’d like to explore. This is the perfect launchpad!

Come and immerse yourself into the world of sewing, bring a friend and experience the activity together or come alone and enjoy meeting like minded people.

All sewing machines, tools and fabrics supplied and included in course fee.

Nikki Lennon

With a life time of sewing experience, 30yrs+ (and still learning!) I first began my sewing & creative journey along side my mum in her clothing design & manufacturing company.  I then trained as a fashion designer and pattern maker, worked for several years in Asia in fashion manufacturing. On returning to Ireland I began designing annd making  bespoke wedding dresses and eveningwear. This evolved into a retail business which I ran for 15 years, taking a break when my three girls were very little. For the past 4 years I have been running my own design studio in the heart of Dun Laoghaire town, where I am lucky enough to continue working in an area that I love, and to pass on my sewing and design skills to adults and children in my weekly classes. I am thrilled to have been invited to join the creative community at Amo & Pax in their stunning workshop space upstairs from their gorgeous retail shop, where there is a flurry of creative endeavors happening weekly.
